The Terms they are a-changin...

Bob Dylan

Sorry couldn’t resist a terrible pun on the back of yet more positive tweaks to the license model by Dbvisit.  Sources close to the kiwi vendor who provide low cost Oracle Dataguard and Goldengate alternatives comment that after the recent simplification of it’s licensing triggered by Oracle’s changes to Oracle Standard Edition 2 (SE2) licensing and customer feedback announce further improvements.

AgileTS are real fans of Dbvisit Standby & Replicate and have many clients who have made significant savings on Oracle licensing and support costs, or simply been able to run Oracle Database Standard Edition rather than Enterprise Edition which unsurprisingly comes with a significant cost saving, especially if Data Guard was the main reason for using Enterprise Edition.

So it really does seem that Dbvisit will allow customers to have the best of all worlds and here’s how.

In the Agile Technology Solutions blog last week we explained how Dbvisit is moving to a per database model of licensing which compared to the old model which was based on sockets.

We know that existing customers will have the choice until March 2017 to add additional licenses on either the original per socket model or change to the simpler per database model.  No one is being forced to change or do anything rash.

Better still whilst Dbvisit licenses are still available on a perpetual basis.  They can now be purchased on a term basis (like Oracle term licenses) of 1, 2 or 3 years.  This is on the back of customer requests for a term licensing options which are more suited to projects or to reduce Capex by pushing spend to Opex.

So if your already a Dbvisit user or looking at Replicate or Standby then drop us a line at dbvist@agilets.com to discuss the Dbvist license changes and what they will mean to you.
