For those of us in the Oracle partner world that are motivated enough or some might say sad enough! to check on a regular basis the changes to Oracle documentation it came as no surprise that a new Oracle technology price list was suddenly available for download on Tuesday.
Oracle had snuck in a series of price hikes and funnily enough no press releases or public announcements. Now these lets say “adjustments” are quite common for the US Company whose master price list is published in USD. Twice a year local currency price lists are reset with Oracle fixing a price list / internal exchange rate.
The headline increase is around 5% for GBP
So what does this mean for let’s say out favorite Oracle product? Database Standard Edition 2 (SE2) processor license is now £11,641 with Software Update License and Support now £2,561 per year.
This compares with £11,086 / £2,439 just last week!
With the increasing competition from MySQL variants, Sql Server and the new kid on the block TmaxSoft Tibero database – Oracle’s competitors will be rubbing their hands in the UK market!!
That said there will be a grace period and we will still be able to honor existing quotes and generally we will be able to absorb the price increases until end of May – however this really does strengthen the appeal of niche players like Dbvist who enable Oracle users to do more with basic Oracle products rather than the premium Enterprise versions thus significantly lowering TCO.
